Boyd comes a bit cheaper for Flames

Dustin Boyd has spent his entire NHL career with the Flames. Forward Dustin Boyd re-signed Thursday with the Calgary Flames for $650,000 US.

The St. Louis Blues have signed defenseman Brendan Bell, who played with the Ottawa Senators last season. The deal was announced on Friday. The 26-year-old played in 53 games for the Senators, getting six goals and 15 assists along with 24 penalty minutes. He also played in 15 games with Ottawa's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Flyers sign Tollefsen to one-year deal

The Philadelphia Flyers and defenceman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen have agreed to a one-year contract.

Coyotes documents to remain sealed (AP)
A judge has ruled that most of the documents detailing talks between Glendale officials and bidders for the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes will remain sealed. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Edward Burke said Friday only 34 of the 322 pages of documents must be made public. The Goldwater Institute, a conservative watchdog group, has been pressing in court to open all 322 pages of documents.

Flyers, D Tollefsen agree to 1-year deal (AP)
The Philadelphia Flyers and defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen have agreed to a one-year contract. The 25-year-old Tollefsen played in 19 games last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but he missed 39 regular-season games and all four in the playoffs due to injury. Tollefsen is the fifth Norwegian-born player to play in the NHL and the second for the Flyers.

Caps’ Jurcina re-signs after arbitration (AP)
Defenseman Milan Jurcina has re-signed with the Washington Capitals after being awarded a one-year $1.375 million contract through arbitration. The deal was announced on Friday. Jurcina played in 79 of 82 games last season, leading all Capitals defensemen. He had three goals, a career-high 11 assists and led the team with 131 blocked shots, earning him a raise from his $912,000 salary for 2008-09.

Russia's Kontinental Hockey League completed a contract with Detroit Red Wings forward Jiri Hudler on Thursday. The KHL registered Hudler's two-year, $10 million contract in Moscow. A statement from the league cited two NHL teams' pursuit of players under contract with KHL clubs and a lack of a player transfer agreement between the leagues as the impetus for the move.

Report: Red Wings make offer to former Wing Jason Williams

The Detroit Red Wings have made a one-year contract offer to forward Jason Williams, according to sportingnews.com. Williams, who played for the Wings in 2000-07 before being traded to Chicago, reportedly also is considering joining the Continental Hockey League in Russia.

Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes has challenged Jerry Reinsdorf's bid to buy the financially troubled hockey team. In a motion filed in bankruptcy court on Thursday, Moyes' attorney said that Reinsdorf's bid “cannot be approved as a matter of law” and that “there are no qualified bidders” based on terms set by the court.

The Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed left wing Scottie Upshall to a one-year contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed Wednesday. The 25-year-old Upshall set career highs in goals (15), assists (19), points (34) and games played (74) last season with Philadelphia and Phoenix. The Coyotes acquired him from Philadelphia on March 4 in a deal that sent Daniel Carcillo to the Flyers.

NHL approves Reinsdorf bid for Coyotes (AP)
The NHL Board of Governors approved a bid Wednesday by Jerry Reinsdorf to assume ownership of the financially troubled Phoenix Coyotes, and unanimously rejected an application by Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie to buy the team. The group heading by Reinsdorf, the owner of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls, was the only one of three applicants to gain the board's approval on Wednesday.
